IPL 2022 – 3 of the worst performing teams in the second week of the tournament
In the previous post, we spoke about the top 3 performing teams in the second week of the IPL, and now, it’s time to take a look at the 3 of the worst performing teams in the tournament. Some of these teams struggled in the first week of the tournament as well and if they continue the same run of form in the third week, progression in the tournament will be very difficult.
There are some names that may surprise you, and some that you may have expected. Whatever the case may be, time is quickly running out.
Let’s get into the article –
Number 3. Sunrisers Hyderabad
The Sunrisers Hyderabad squad is ranked eighth in this list as a result of their superior results versus the CSK and MI teams. They appeared in a single game against LSG in week two and put up a fight, but were unable to convert it into a win.
The LSG squad scored 169 runs, with Washington Sundar, Romario Shepherd, and Natarajan each taking two wickets, while Bhuvneshwar returned with an economical performance and Umran Malik conceded runs at a rate of 13 runs per over.
In the batting department, Rahul Tripathi and Nicholas Pooran contributed 44 and 34 runs, respectively, while the rest of the squad was unable to contribute to the team’s success.
Number 2. Chennai Super Kings
The Ravindra Jadeja-led franchise has struggled in the competition. They have lost all three league matches, which is a first in club history. They appeared in a single match against PBKS in week two.
The bowlers were below average, allowing the opposition to reach a dangerous total of 180. Chris Jordan and Dwaine Pretorius took two wickets apiece, but Mukesh Choudhary and Dwayne Bravo were expensive for the squad.
The CSK squad responded by losing five wickets in eight overs, putting all the burden on Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni. Although the pair stitched a 62-run combination, it was not enough to keep the squad alive in the game.
Number 1. Mumbai Indians
Captain Rohit Sharma’s brilliance has been unable to secure a victory for the MI squad in the IPL 2022. With no victories in their past three league matches and a poor net run rate, they are in second place in the points standings and will need to exert some effort to regain their winning ways. They appeared in two matches during the second week of this tournament.
In the opening match, they faced RR, who thrashed them for 193 runs. Jasprit Bumrah and Tymal Mills each took three wickets for the squad. Batting-wise, Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma’s half-centuries were unable to secure the game for them, while other batsmen failed to contribute adequately.
They met KKR in the second league encounter and had a good end to their innings, reaching 161 with Suryakumar Yadav collecting a fifty. Although they batted well and continued to pick up wickets until Pat Cummins blasted them away with his 56 off 15, MI lost their third league game of the season.
