IPL 2022 – IDEAL replacements for Nathan Coulter-Nile at Rajasthan Royals

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) have assembled one of their strongest squads in IPL history, covering the most of their bases. The roster possesses an ideal balance of seasoned and skilled young players that can assist them in claiming their second title following the first edition in 2008.

However, RR have suffered a significant blow with the announcement that Australian fast bowling all-rounder Nathan Coulter-Nile would miss the balance of the season with a side strain sustained in the opening league encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Following that, he was also ineligible to play in the following two matches.

The selectors at RR will be looking to bring in a bowling all-rounder to replace Nathan Coulter-Nile and in this article, we are going to name a few players who would make for a pound for pound replacement.

Number 1. David Wiese

Due to his expertise and performances, the South African national is on the verge of achieving legendary status in the T20 format. However, with the majority of clubs focused on the future, David Wiese was unable to get any offers in the IPL 2022 super auction.

Wiese has appeared in two IPL seasons for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), scoring 127 runs and taking 16 wickets. While he played admirably, he has not been able to compete in the event since 2017.

After representing South Africa from 2013 to 2016, Wiese joined Namibia in 2021 and helped the side qualify for the T20 World Cup’s Super 12 stage in the UAE in 2021. Wiese was instrumental in helping the Lahore Qalandars win the PSL 2021 title, scoring 168 runs and collecting nine wickets in 13 matches. With this type of form, he will undoubtedly get the attention of the RR team’s management.

Number 2. Hayden Kerr

The promising young talent rose to prominence in the Big Bash League 2021/22 with the Sydney Sixers, collecting 25 wickets and scoring 152 runs. Hayden Kerr was undoubtedly a factor in the squad reaching the finals as well. His greatest batting effort was 98* off 58 balls against the Adelaide Strikers.

Hayden emerged as the Sixers’ greatest bowler, utilising his variations and pace to consistently pick up wickets. He holds the greatest bowling stats of 4/32, which he recorded against the Perth Scorchers in January 2022.

With Kerr in superb form in first-class cricket as well, he is making the right sounds to gain the exposure he requires to further his career and represent Australia in all forms.

Number 3. Ben Cutting

Ben Cutting, an experienced all-rounder who has played in practically every franchise league in the globe and has also been in the IPL, will be at the top of this list to replace his fellow Australian player. Despite his outstanding accomplishments in the T20 format, he was not sold in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Cutting has scored 238 runs and taken ten wickets in 21 IPL matches. His quickfire 39* and two wickets in the IPL 2016 final helped SRH claim their maiden title.

Cutting ended with 197 runs in nine innings with a strike rate of 164.16 in the just completed Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021.
