MS Dhoni becomes India’s second player to appear in 350 T20 international matches
MS Dhoni, the former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain, made his 350th T20 appearance on April 3 against the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2022’s 11th encounter (PBKS). He became only the second Indian player to accomplish this accomplishment, joining India and Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma on the list.
Dhoni became the sixth Indian to reach the 7000-run mark in the T20 format of the game during CSK’s previous match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He now has more than 7000 runs in the 350 matches he has played, including 28 half-centuries.
Dhoni handed over the captaincy mantle to Ravindra Jadeja a few days before the commencement of this season of the lucrative event. Prior to this season of the IPL, Jadeja lacked leadership experience. Perhaps for the first time in his career, Jadeja has been named captain of an Indian Premier League squad.
Suresh Raina would take over as captain in Dhoni’s absence. However, Raina was unsold in this year’s huge auction and will not compete. Rather than that, he has taken a seat behind the microphone and will assume the role of a Hindi pundit.
In terms of Dhoni, it appears as though he has made a comeback in this IPL. In the previous two years, the 40-year-old has struggled to hit huge runs in the IPL. However, he began this year’s campaign with an unbeaten half-century in the opening game, followed by a quick-fire six-ball-16 in the second.
As the Chennai Super Kings will be pursuing the Punjab Kings, it’s worth noting that Dhoni is just three sixes away from breaking the top-five record of most sixes for a T20 franchise. CSK will undoubtedly want Dhoni to maintain his resurgent form in future games.
