Zaheer Khan provides much needed Injury update on MI star batsman Ishan Kishan
Mumbai Indians, five-time winners, received a boost at the top of their batting order with the return of wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan following an injury sustained on his left toe during MI’s meeting with Delhi Capitals in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL). Suryakumar Yadav, the squad’s middle-order batter, has also joined the bio-bubble following his recovery from a finger injury and completion of the obligatory quarantine period.
On April 2, the Mumbai franchise will face the Rajasthan Royals at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy (Saturday). Zaheer Khan, the team’s director of cricket operations, provided information on the availability of players such as Kishan and Surya. The five-time champions will be seeking their second victory of the season following a defeat to the Delhi Capitals.
Kishan batted left-handed and smashed 11 fours and two sixes in his 81-ball innings. He did, however, injure his toe in the process. All of this occurred on the second delivery of the 18th over, when a pinpoint Shardul Thakur yorker struck Kishan’s left toe. He did slip a leg bye to exit the strike after surviving the punch, but has been observed limping since.
While he batted for the remainder of the inning, the southpaw opted out of the field in the second and went for scans. Chasing a 178-run mark, the Capitals were mostly eliminated from contention after being 104/6 in 13.2 overs. However, Lalit Yadav’s (48 off 38 balls), Thakur’s (22 off 11 balls), and Axar Patel’s (38 off 17 balls) superb performances ensured Delhi’s victory.
