Afghanistan names Umar Gul as its new bowling coach
Umar Gul, a former Pakistan fast bowler, has been hired as the new bowling coach and consultant for the Afghanistan national team. On April 4, 2022, he will report to the national camp. Gul has expertise coaching at both the domestic and Pakistan Super League levels (PSL).
He formerly served as bowling coach for the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and as a member of the coaching staff for the Kashmir Premier League (KPL) and the Galle Gladiators in the Lanka Premier League (LPL).
According to his agreement with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), Gul will spend three weeks with the team and, if things go well, he may be given an extension.
Gul, widely regarded as one of the greatest pace bowlers in T20I history, will be in head of Afghanistan’s pace bowling unit. Afghanistan has an abundance of talented spinners, but a dearth of quality seamers, which has been a source of concern for a long time. Gul began his coaching career immediately upon his announcement of his retirement from international cricket in 2020.
