Dinesh Karthik is as cool as MS Dhoni, according to RCB skipper Faf du Plessis
Royal Challengers Bangalore began their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign with a three-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders. It was a low-scoring contest that lasted until the final buzzer sounded. As RCB continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, KKR appeared to be in a stronger position in the late stages of the game. Dinesh Karthik, on the other hand, hammered a six and a boundary in the final over’s first two deliveries to secure the deal for RCB. In total, he scored 14 points on just seven attempts.
The experienced wicketkeeper even performed admirably in his side’s season-opening encounter, striking an unbeaten 32 off 14 balls in a losing effort against Punjab Kings. Karthik’s back-to-back fiery cameos have impressed many members of the cricket fraternity, including RCB skipper Faf du Plessis. The Proteas star poured admiration on Karthik, comparing him to former Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni, who is also renowned for his ability to finish games.
“In an ideal world, we would’ve liked to have won more convincingly but a win is a win. DK’s experience helped in the end, cool-calm, runs weren’t never really too far away. DK is as close as it gets to MS Dhoni when it comes to being ice cool. I rely on other people for help,” said Du Plessis in the post-match conversation.
Meanwhile, RCB’s victory was far from convincing, as the Knight Riders gave them a run for their money while protecting a modest 128. While Du Plessis admitted as much, the former South African captain expressed satisfaction with the overall result.
