Kane Williamson was fined INR 12 lakh by the BCCI for SRH’s sluggish over-rate against RR

As if Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 61-run loss to Rajasthan Royals in their IPL 2022 opener wasn’t terrible enough, team captain Kane Williamson has been penalized INR 12 lakh for sustaining a sluggish over-rate in the game. As a result, the New Zealand international has become the second captain this season, following Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma, to be found guilty of this offense.

Notably, the overrate laws are quite strict, thus captains must keep a close eye on the clock. While the first offense will result in a fine of INR 12 lakh, the sum will be quadrupled (INR 24 lakh) if any team’s captain is found to have committed the violation twice.

If it happens a third time, not only will the officials levy a fine of INR 30 lakh, but the skipper would be barred from playing in the next match. Fines will also be imposed on the players after the second offense.

In terms of the game, the orange army was outplayed in all three departments by RR, who were on a roll. In Pune, the Men in Pink batted first and produced 210/6 in their allotted 20 overs. While skipper Sanju Samson smashed a scorching half-century, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, Devdutt Padikkal, and Shimron Hetmyer all contributed significantly.
