Faf du Plessis and Sherfane Rutherford steal the show in the RCB’s inaugural practise match
In preparation for the Tata IPL 2022, Royal Challengers Bangalore played their first practice match at Thane’s Dadoji Konddev Stadium. Faf du Plessis, Sherfane Rutherford of the West Indies, Dinesh Karthik, Akashdeep, and Suyash Prabhudessai all stole the show during the high-octane encounter. The entire squad was divided into two teams, with Faf du Plessis leading Team A and Harshal Patel leading Team B. (Team B).
Team A elected to bat and set a gigantic 215-run mark, aided by thundering innings from Faf du Plessis (76 off 40), Rutherford (59 off 31), and wicketkeeper-batsman Anuj Rawat (46 off 25). Faf and Rawat’s opening partnership established the tone for the innings, while the middle order revealed its armament, with the likes of Dinesh Karthik and Rutherford demonstrating their prowess in abundance. Meanwhile, Harshal Patel claimed three wickets, while leg-spinner Karn Sharma claimed two.
Suyash Prabhudessai top-scored for the visitors with 87 off just 46 balls. Dinesh Karthik, who batted in both innings, once again demonstrated his middle-order prowess with a quick-fire 49 off just 21 deliveries. The game came down to the final two deliveries, with two runs necessary off each. However, pacer Akash Deep exhibited tremendous composure and ensured Team A won by a single run. He grabbed four wickets to lead the bowlers, while Sri Lankan leggie Wanindu Hasaranga and Shahbaz Ahmed each took one wicket.
Royal Challengers Bangalore begin their IPL 2022 campaign against Punjab Kings on March 27th (Sunday) at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium.
