IPL 2022 – 5 senior players who still have the firepower

The IPL 2022 season is now just a few days away. The majority of the competition’s teams are based in the state of Maharashtra. The tournament is set to begin with the rematch of last year’s finalists (CSK & KKR).

Perhaps in terms of IPL players’ ages, the Universe Boss (Chris Gayle) used to be the oldest. CSK was dubbed dad’s army even as an aging team. However, given the unpredictable nature of the game, there is no way to foresee when older players will transform into match winners. To honor this idea, we have produced a list of five senior players who still possess the firepower to light up the stage this season.

Number 1. Mohammad Nabi

This Afghan icon is now gracefully entering his late 30s. The IPL cricketer made his IPL debut with the orange army (2017). Until last season, SRH paid Nabi a salary of INR 1 Cr. However, the all-rounder will now play for KKR in the IPL 2022.

Nabi will join the exclusive company of other all-rounders such as Andre Russell and Sunil Narine if he is signed at his prior pay. By and large, the Afghan cricketer is regarded as a back-up to Sunil Narine. Nabi, on the other hand, has appeared in just four IPL games over the last two seasons.

Nabi has a very respectable IPL record overall as a veteran of the shortest format. The 37-year-old has taken 13 wickets and scored 180 runs in his 17 IPL appearances. We can only hope that this maestro gets a lot more playing time in the IPL in 2022.

Number 2. Wriddhiman Saha

Wriddhiman Saha began his IPL career at the tender age of 23. While playing for KKR, the cricketer was also the team’s front-line gloveman. Saha earned an IPL title with CSK in 2011 in the league. Additionally, the batter was at his prime throughout his tenure with the Punjab club, which lasted till the 2017 IPL.

Perhaps the gloveman will play for the Gujarat Titans in the upcoming season. Saha may even establish himself as a top-order batsman after signing him for about INR 2 Crore. Unfortunately, the 37-year-old had a serious malfunction during his last IPL season. Saha scored 131 runs in nine appearances with a strike rate of 93.57.

Otherwise, the veteran has a pretty respectable IPL record. Saha has scored 2110 runs at an average of 24.53 in 133 matches. We hope that Saha provides Titans with a slew of steady beginnings in the IPL 2022.

Number 3. Faf du Plessis

This South African cricketer began his IPL career in 2012. Faf was chosen by MSD’s yellow army as a 27-year-old. Additionally, the batter earned a small wage of INR 60 lakh during his rookie season. Faf, on the other hand, will captain RCB in the current era and earn a salary of INR 7 Cr.

Perhaps the 37-year-old is aging, yet he was the second-highest run-scorer in the IPL 2021. Indeed, Du Plessis had his greatest IPL season with CSK. With almost 600 runs scored, the veteran was also smacking at a strike rate of nearly 140. In total, his last two IPL seasons have been the most fruitful of his career.

Faf is also one of the few CSK players to have played 100 games. Additionally, the ace cricketer is closing in on 3000 runs in the competition. Overall, we wish Du Plessis the best of luck in helping RCB win its first IPL title.

Number 4. Dwayne Bravo

This Wisconsin cricketer has been a part of the IPL since 2008. Dwayne Bravo was barely 24 years old when he made his MI debut. Until IPL 2010, the all-rounder was a key member of the MI squad. Bravo’s best IPL days, on the other hand, have occurred under the yellow army. His affiliation with CSK began in 2011 and continues to this day.

During the IPL’s previous four-year cycle, this T20 legend earned roughly INR 6.4 Cr. The pacer had an outstanding IPL 2021 campaign, taking 14 wickets in 11 matches. Bravo’s retirement from international cricket at the moment also implies that he is nearing the end of his career. However, in terms of vitality and energy, the cricketer appears to be perpetually peppy and zestful.

Bravo will continue to spearhead CSK’s pace bowling attack in the IPL 2022. Additionally, the ace is likely to exceed Lasith Malinga’s career-high wicket total and become the IPL’s all-time leading wicket-taker.

Number 5. Mahendra Singh Dhoni

MSD has been the yellow army’s lifeblood from its inception. As CSK’s senior player, the cricketer has now appeared in around 190 matches. Additionally, the giant is the franchise’s second-leading run-scorer.

Perhaps the link to CSK occurred while MSD was only 26 years old. Dhoni was lavishly signed by CSK as the most expensive player in the inaugural IPL auction. The great will earn INR 12 Cr in the IPL 2022. MSD became the first cricketer to earn INR 150 crore from the IPL last year in IPL 2021.

As fans, we hope MSD continues to participate in the IPL for another season and forces CSK to defend its crown. He will also make his IPL debut as a player for CSK after relinquishing the captaincy to KKR.
