Daniel Vettori has been named as Australia’s spin consultant for the white-ball leg
Daniel Vettori, a former New Zealand captain, has been named as Australia’s spin specialist for their white-ball tour of Pakistan. Vettori’s involvement in the coaching set-up was confirmed by Cricket Australia, and the 43-year-old will act as a spin-bowling consultant for the Australians in Lahore, where they will play three one-day internationals and a T20I. He will assume responsibility and begin training with the white-ball group in Melbourne before the team’s departure from Pakistan.
Vettori’s most recent international coaching position was as Bangladesh’s spin bowling coach from 2019 to 2021. Prior to Australia’s 2017 visit to India, he was also a brief member of their set-up. Prior to the start of the three-match Test series, Australia chose Pakistan-born Australian cricketer Fawad Ahmed as the team’s consultant.
Vettori’s international career has seen him capture 362 Test wickets, 305 ODI wickets, and 38 T20I wickets. He also has expertise coaching in the shorter formats of the game, having worked with the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Barbados Royals in the Indian Premier League and Caribbean Premier League, respectively.
Australia and Pakistan are presently playing the last Test match of the series and will thereafter face off in a three-match One-Day International series. Both games thus far, held in Rawalpindi and Karachi, have ended in draws. The third and final game will serve as the series’ decider.
