Khaya Zondo, the KwaZulu Natal batsman, has received his first Test call-up for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which begins March 31. Lizaad Williams and Daryn Dupavillon have been included in place of regulars like Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, and Marco Jansen, who are all scheduled to participate in the forthcoming IPL 2022.
Zondo, who has represented his country in six One-Day Internationals, has amassed 6230 runs in first-class cricket at an average of 31.78. Incidentally, he has been in good form this season, as indicated by his highest first-class score of 203 against Western Province in the 2021-22 season.
Meanwhile, Dupavillon, who was named to South Africa’s Test squad for the series against Pakistan last year, has taken 214 wickets in first-class cricket at an average of slightly more than 25. Additionally, the pace bowler has represented South Africa in a few of One-Day Internationals. Williams, on the other hand, has represented South Africa in one One-Day International and has taken 206 wickets at an average of little under 27 in first-class cricket.
The two batters, Aiden Markram and Rassie van der Dussen, are also unavailable due to IPL obligations. South Africa, on the other hand, will benefit from the return of their third batter, Keegan Petersen. The right-hander was sidelined for the New Zealand Test series because to illness caused by Covid-19.
The first Test begins on March 31 in Durban, while the second Test begins on April 8 in Port Elizabeth.
