Mark Wood of LSG has been ruled out of the season with an elbow injury

Mark Wood has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League’s 2022 season, in what can only be described as a devastating setback for Lucknow Super Giants (IPL). England’s speedster suffered an elbow injury during last week’s opening Test against the West Indies in Antigua. He was unable to attend the ongoing second Test in Barbados due to the same.

As Wood’s injury is expected to take time to recover, he will miss the IPL 2022 season, which begins on March 26. It’s worth noting that Wood is one of the fastest bowlers in the game, and his T20I statistics are rather outstanding as well. As a result, numerous franchises targeted him during last month’s blockbuster auction. However, Lucknow Super Kings ultimately prevailed in the bidding war and grabbed Wood’s services for an eye-popping INR 7.5 crore.

This season, the squad will be without their star fast bowler. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has informed LSG authorities of Wood’s unavailability for the remainder of the season. The franchise has not yet named a successor.

Notably, Wood made his only IPL appearance in 2018, for the Chennai Super Kings. Wood allowed 49 runs in his four overs and also failed to grab a wicket. He has, however, been in fine form for England in T20Is recently. Wood has taken 26 wickets at an economy rate of 8.76 in 19 games in the shortest international format.
