Gujarati commentary is poised to make its debut in IPL 2022
The IPL 2022 season begins on March 26 with a curtain-raiser in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium featuring last year’s finalists Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. Just days before the start of the flagship tournament, it was reported that the commentary team has been enhanced with new innovations.
Apart from English and Hindi, the tournament’s official broadcasters have kept the audience captivated with Tamil and Kannada commentary in recent years, in addition to other regional languages. This time, they’ve chosen to create a Gujarati commentary with an outstanding panel. This is the first commentary experiment in the language since the state gained a new IPL franchise in the form of the Gujarat Titans this season.
Additionally, the article adds that all Gujarat matches and play-offs this weekend will be conducted in Gujarati. According to rumors, the Gujarati commentary team will include former wicketkeeper-batsman Nayan Mongia, veteran all-rounder Irfan Pathan, ex-stumper Kiran More, and one of Gujarat’s most popular radio jockeys.
Ten teams will compete in 70 matches across four sites in two cities in Maharashtra over a two-month period. They will be divided into two groups. CSK are the defending champions, having won the IPL title for the fourth time in 2021.
