Rohit Sharma reaffirms his belief that Ashwin is one of the all-time great spin bowlers in the sport

Ravichandran Ashwin extended his unbeaten run in whites as India hammered Sri Lanka 2-0 at home in the just-concluded Test series. The off-spinner claimed 12 wickets in two games while also batting a half-century, garnering him plaudits from all quarters. Notably, Ashwin passed Kapil Dev’s 434 Test wickets total in the opening game to become India’s second-highest Test wicket scorer.

In lauding Ashwin’s accomplishments, Indian captain Rohit Sharma dubbed him an ‘all-time great.’ While his statement caused consternation in the cricket community, the 34-year-old has maintained his position. Following the completion of the second Test, Rohit praised Ashwin for his role in the team’s success, praising his wicket-taking talents. He also discussed why the off-spinner is a gaming classic.

“It was my opinion (about being the best bowler); he contributes to the team anytime he is given the ball, produces match-winning performances whenever he is given the ball, and thus I believe he is a game legend. “Every time the ball is handed to him, he comes up with something good,” Rohit stated following the match.

Previously, Rohit heaped praise on Ashwin for his all-around performance in the Mohali Test. Rohit was also given his first Test leadership duty, and he was overjoyed with Ashwin’s performance.
