Rohit Sharma encourages Rishabh Pant to maintain his aggressive style of play
Rohit Sharma, India’s captain, has hailed Rishabh Pant for his outstanding performance in the just-finished Test series against Sri Lanka. Pant had an outstanding series with the bat and behind the wickets, scoring the fastest half-century by an Indian player in Test cricket. The left-hander reached his fifty in just 28 balls in the second innings against Sri Lanka, breaking the 40-year-old record held by the legendary Kapil Dev.
Pant has made significant strides in his batting talents over the last two to three years and has established himself as a key member of the Indian team across all three formats. He has enjoyed his Test cricket thus far, having scored four hundred and eight half-centuries, and his attitude on the tricky Bengaluru pitch spoke volumes about his game-changing powers.
Rohit stated that while the management has allowed Pant to express himself, they have cautioned him to play shots that are suited to specific pitches and to be cognizant of the game circumstances. He said that the wicketkeeper-batsman had shown significant development in his game plans and was willing to accept failure at times, given his match-winning ability.
Pant has previously made some significant contributions to the team in Tests, notably the legendary unbeaten 89 at the Gabba that helped India win a historic Test series in Australia under Ajinkya Rahane.
