CWI announces a three-team Women’s CPL to be held concurrently with the Men’s event

With all the excitement surrounding the upcoming women’s IPL, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced an initial season of the Women’s CPL in the Caribbean this year, alongside the men’s CPL in 2022. The inaugural women’s Caribbean Premier League will feature three teams: Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors, and Trinbago Knight Riders. The league will run from August 30 to September 30.

The event will be held in four countries, with three sites hosting the group stages and one hosting the finals. It should be mentioned that the event will involve all players in the present West Indies international arena, men and women, and is projected to be a significant step forward in the growth of the country’s women’s game.

Ricky Skerritt, president of the West Indies cricket board, stated that the event will increase opportunities for women in the country to thrive and expressed his joy at working with the CPL. He stated that the women’s CPL games are likely to be of the greatest caliber.

In terms of women’s cricket, the West Indies have begun their campaign for the Women’s World Cup 2022 very successfully, winning two of their first three matches. They did suffer a heavy setback to India, but they also won several close matches against New Zealand and England, which will bolster their confidence going forward.
