Physio Nitin Patel will be moved to the NCA

Nitin Patel, Team India’s physiotherapist, is scheduled to join the National Cricket Academy (NCA) as Rahul Dravid and co. try feverishly to halt the recent onslaught of player injuries. Patel’s move to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Bangalore facility may be accompanied by a promotion to the newly created position of Head Sports Science and Medicine at the NCA.

The suggested move gains credence in light of the BCCI’s recent invitation for applications for the Indian team’s physiotherapist position. Additionally, it has invited applications for a senior women’s team physiotherapist, a senior physiotherapist at the NCA, and four additional junior and assistant physiotherapists for the Bangalore Test against Sri Lanka.

Patel’s transfer to the NCA appears to have been suggested by head coach Dravid, who is said to be concerned about the recent spate of Indian player injuries. From Deepak Chahar to Suryakumar Yadav to Varun Chakravarthy, numerous players have required rehab at the NCA, and in this environment, the team’s think tank is believed to have concluded that Patel’s experience and knowledge would be the best option, given the upcoming World Cups. Patel’s transfer is possible following the ongoing Sri Lanka series.

Patel and Yogesh Parmar are the Indian team’s current physiotherapists. While Parmar is expected to continue with the team, the BCCI is attempting to nominate a candidate in lieu of Patel because there is a growing sense that the team requires at least two physios traveling with the players always.

Additionally, the BCCI has solicited applications for Team India’s trainer job (Strength & Conditioning Coaches), which was recently vacated by Nick Webb. Positions, six more in fact, are also vacant in this category — for the women’s team and the NCA. All of these individuals, both physiotherapists, and trainers will report to Patel.

One of the intriguing conditions specified by the BCCI for people interested in the aforementioned occupations is a willingness to work unsocial hours.
