Cheteshwar Pujara will represent Sussex in the County Championship and One-Day International competitions
Cheteshwar Pujara, along with senior teammates Ajinkya Rahane, Ishant Sharma, and Wriddhiman Saha, was dropped from the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka due to his disappointing performances over the last 12 months. Due to his removal from the national squad, Pujara was forced to work extra hard in the Ranji Trophy 2021/22 season in order to remain relevant in India’s red-ball setup going ahead.
Pujara has now made himself completely open to play county cricket following his failure to sell in the IPL 2022 mega auction last month. He was a member of the CSK squad that won the 2021 season but was released after no franchise expressed interest in him at the two-day tournament in Bengaluru.
Cheteshwar Pujara has been drafted into the Sussex side in place of Travis Head. The Australian sought that the County releases him from the contract due to upcoming national commitments. Meanwhile, Pujara will arrive in Sussex in time for the County’s opening game and will be available till the One-Day tournament concludes. He is overjoyed to be joining Sussex for the upcoming season and is looking forward to working with the County team.
