Rahmanullah Gurbaz to join Gujarat Titans as Jason Roy’s replacement in IPL 2022 ?

Explosive England opener Jason Roy stunned everyone this week when he announced his immediate withdrawal from the IPL 2022, citing bio-bubble fatigue. He then made it clear the following day that he desired some quality time with his family ahead of the upcoming grueling cricket schedule.

Roy was signed for INR two crore by newcomers Gujarat Titans at the two-day event in Bengaluru. Gujarat was left in a pickle following the South African-born cricketer’s abrupt withdrawal from the upcoming premier competition, and they immediately began hunting for alternative possibilities. Recently, the new franchise allegedly discovered a substitute for the dynamic opener, albeit they have yet to officially announce it.

On March 8, a fervent cricket fan tweeted that Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz had been picked as Jason Roy’s replacement for the IPL 2022.

Now, it is unknown whether the Gujarat-based franchise will also confirm the same moving ahead. Gurbaz has played in numerous franchise T20 tournaments across the globe since making his first-class debut in 2017 for Mis Ainak Knights. He has represented clubs like Khulna Titans, Barbados Tridents, Multan Sultans, Islamabad United, and Jaffna Kings.

The 20-year-old has scored 531 runs in 18 T20I appearances for Afghanistan, averaging 29.5, with two half-centuries and a top score of 79. The teenager recently played for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League 2022, scoring 139 runs in six games at an average of 27.80 and a strike rate of 180.51, with the best score of 46.
