IPL 2022 Format – Two groups of five teams, each of which continues to play 14 league games

It was confirmed on Friday by the BCCI that each of the ten IPL teams will play 14 league matches (7 home and 7 away). Each team will play five teams twice, with the remaining four teams being played only once each by each team.

The ten clubs have been separated into two virtual groups of five, each based on a seeding system established by the number of IPL championships won and the number of final appearances, in order to ensure that this is the case.

Each team will play twice against the other teams in their group, as well as against the team in the same row in the other group, in order to complete the round robin. Each team will play only one game against the remaining four teams in the other group during the course of the season.

For example, KKR will play twice in the league stages versus MI, RR, DC, LSG, and SRH, as well as the other teams listed above (the team in the same row in the other group). Against CSK, RCB, PBKS, and GT, KKR will only field one player in each match.

The format will be similar to that of the 2011 season, which saw the introduction of two new clubs to the IPL: the Pune Warriors India and the Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
