After receiving Halberg Sportsman of the Year, Kane Williamson delivers an injury report
Kane Williamson’s comeback from a long-standing elbow injury is progressing well, in what can only be described as good news for New Zealand cricket. The New Zealand captain, who was voted sportsman of the year at the Halberg Awards on Wednesday night (February 23), delivered an update on his persistent ailment, which has kept him out of action since November last year.
Williamson last played in the first Test against India, but was forced to withdraw owing to ongoing elbow problems. He also skipped the Bangladesh Test series at home and is skipping the current South Africa series. Williamson does not want to rush his comeback because this problem has been bothering him for a long time.
Williamson told Gold AM’s Country Sport Breakfast that his elbow issue, which has bothered him since late 2020, was responding well. New Zealand will host the Netherlands in three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and a single Twenty20 International (T20I) next month. When asked if he will be available for those games, the 31-year-old replied that foregoing an anticipated comeback date is part of his treatment method this time.
