Shane Watson will be an assistant coach for the Delhi Capitals
Shane Watson is scheduled to join the Delhi Capitals as an assistant coach for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season, in what can only be described as a big move. With 3874 runs and 92 wickets in the competition, the former Australian all-rounder is one of the most prolific players in league history. Watson, who last played for the Chennai Super Kings, withdrew from professional cricket following the 2020 season and has since worked as a commentator.
However, it has now been revealed that the Delhi Capitals, who have qualified for the playoffs in each of the previous three seasons, have hired him as a coach. It should be mentioned that Mohammad Kaif and Ajay Ratra, the assistant coaches from previous season, have left the Delhi-based organisation. Ajit Agarkar, a former Indian pacer, is also expected to join Watson as an assistant coach.
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant, a wicketkeeper-batsman, will lead the Capitals in the IPL 2022, and there are big expectations for him. With the likes of David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Rovman Powell, and Mitchell Marsh in the batting lineup, the Southpaws will have their work cut out for them. Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, and Anrich Nortje will be in charge of bowling.
