Bangladesh names a squad for the T20I series against Afghanistan, as Shakib and Mushfiqur return.
Beginning February 23, Afghanistan will play Bangladesh in a limited-overs bilateral series. For the two-match T20I series, the hosts have chosen their lineup and have recalled experienced all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Shakib was forced to skip the Pakistan T20Is due to injury. Meanwhile, the three-time Asia Cup finalists have decided to give an uncapped player, Munim Shahriar, a chance in their 14-man roster for the shortest format.
Following a strong showing in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2022, Shahriar will be hoping to make the most of his opportunities to play with Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Liton Kumar Das. In BPL 2022, the Mymensingh cricketer scored 178 runs at a strike rate of 152 in six matches for Fortune Barishal, who finished second after losing by one run against Comilla Victorians.
The second and third One-Day Internationals (ODIs) will be held on February 25 and 28, respectively. All One Day Internationals will be played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, while the two Twenty20 Internationals will be played on March 3 and 5 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Bangladesh will be led by explosive opener Tamim Iqbal in the One Day International series, while middle-order wonder Mahmadullah will command the T20I side.
Both countries will be trying to make the most of their chances in the next series, particularly in the shortest format, in preparation for the Asia Cup T20 and the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 later this year. While Bangladesh has a home advantage, the Afghans should not be overlooked because they have a number of great players on their team who can be match-winners on their day.
