Known as the side that does the best business, Delhi Capitals have shown their acumen yet again with some mighty signings for bargain prices. Delhi has been on an upward curve in the last few seasons and it looks like they want to take that big step up as we head into the new era of IPL.
Delhi Capitals had an available salary purse of Rs. 47.50 crores during IPL 2022 auction. Out of their total Rs. 90 crores salary purse, DC spent Rs. 42.50 crore to retain 4 players. The IPL 2020 runners-up retained Rishabh Pant for Rs. 16 crores, Axar Patel for Rs. 9 crores, Prithvi Shaw for Rs. 7.5 crores and Anrich Nortje for Rs. 6.50 crores for IPL 2022.
Australian T20 World-Cup winning duo David Warner and Mitchell Marsh, and experienced India all-rounder Shardul Thakur headlined the buys of the JSW and GMR co-owned franchise Delhi Capitals on Day 1 of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction.
While Warner and Marsh were acquired for Rs. 6.25 crore and 6.50 crore respectively, Thakur became the franchise’s most expensive buy of the auction so far at Rs. 10.75 crore. The Delhi-based franchise also acquired services of the Indian left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav and Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman for Rs. 2 crores each along with exciting domestic talents — Ashwin Hebbar (Rs 20 lakh), Sarfaraz Khan (Rs 20 lakh) Kamlesh Nagarkoti (Rs 1.10 crore) and KS Bharat (Rs 2.0 crore).
