Nepal set the stage with a win over Oman

Nepal hit the ground running in the opening match of the preparatory quadrangular T20I tournament at Muscat with a win over hosts Oman. Dipendra Singh Airee starred with an economical spell of 0-21 in four overs followed by a splendid unbeaten 73 off 53 balls to see Nepal overhaul Oman’s modest 135-run target with three balls to spare.

The intended opening match of the four-team tournament (scheduled in lieu of any official warm-up matches ahead of next week’s T20 World Cup qualifier) was to have seen Ireland take on the UAE in the morning, but the Irish found themselves unequipped to play the match as much of their luggage had yet to arrive in Oman.

The win will give Nepal a confidence boost ahead of the crucial T20 World Cup Qualifier which starts in seven days’ time when the four teams will be joined by Germany, Canada, Bahrain, and the Philippines to contend for two qualification spots for the 2022 T20 World Cup. Both teams will be back in action tomorrow, Nepal taking on the UAE in the morning and Oman facing off against Ireland in the afternoon match.
