Clinical India complete a 3-0 whitewash against the West Indies

It has been a good day at the office for Team India, who beat the West Indies by a whopping 96 runs in the third and final ODI in the three-match series.

Skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss yet again and elected to bat first on a track that has a tendency to favor good bowling as the day starts to end. After a quick loss of three wickets, Shreyas Iyer and Rishab Pant stabilized the innings and put in a great partnership where Iyer knocked 80 runs from 111 deliveries and Pant scored a quick 56 runs from 54 deliveries. Later on, Washington Sundar and Deepak Chahar added some crucial runs to the board and helped their team get to 265 runs at the end of 50 overs. Jason Holder was the bowler of choice for the Windies after his 4 wicket haul in 8 overs.

Next, the West Indies came out to try and chase the total down. However, as was the case in the previous games, the Indian bowlers immediately came to the party and no West Indian batsman was given breathing room to try and build a score. New boy Prasidh Krishna impressed yet again with a 3 wicket haul while his compatriot Siraj also took 3 wickets for himself. Kuldeep Yadav, who got a call up for this series, showed exactly how much he has improved by scalping two wickets and containing the run flow, and putting the pressure on the Windies that caused them to eventually fall apart.

This result marks the 11th win in 13 ODIs in charge for Rohit Sharma – most by an Indian captain surpassing Virat Kohli’s 10 wins.

The two teams will now proceed to play three T20I matches, the first of which is scheduled to take place on the 16th of February, 2022 at the Eden Gardens.
