Mayank Agarwal gets India call up as seven players test positive for COVID
Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Navdeep Saini (standby player) have tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of India’s white-ball series against West Indies. Mayank Agarwal, as a result, has been added to the ODI squad. The first of the three ODIs are scheduled to start on Sunday (February 6) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
the BCCI said that a total of seven members of the Indian contingent tested positive, including T Dilip (Fielding Coach), B Lokesh (Security Liaison Officer), and Rajeev Kumar (Massage Therapist) after three rounds of testing.
All those who have tested positive have been moved to a different floor in the hotel and are in isolation.
The Indian team has been staying in the Hyatt Regency Hotel in the city since Monday. The team was to undergo three-day quarantine before the practice sessions kick-off. The quarantine period entered its fourth day today (Wednesday, February 3) and the team would have started practicing from tomorrow, but there is ambiguity now if the practice would indeed start as scheduled.
The West Indies team, which reached Ahmedabad on Wednesday morning, is also put up in the same hotel as India, and so are the match officials.
Mayank’s addition to the squad notwithstanding, India has come with a large contingent (of about 26 members, including net bowlers) and there is no imminent threat to the series overall.
